This Week’s Sign of the Apocalypse: Mother Nature vs. Cars?

After discovering the latest omen of the world’s coming demise, the Clog encourages Berkeley students to put down their books and enjoy their short-lived time on Earth.

In an effort to not piss off the earth (or as some like to call it: “save the earth”), UC Berkeley has a policy of restricting parking permits to students who live outside of the two-mile radius around the campus. This leaves many students with cars frustrated but left with three more eco-friendly choices: walk, bike or bus your arses to class.

From the looks of it, however (“it” being the frightening video above), our efforts might not be enough to keep the earth from wanting to destroy us and our vehicles.

The video — which takes place in Montreal, QC, Canada — seems to show Mother Nature fighting back against its century-old nemesis: the car. While we’re used to seeing her attack cars with falling trees and such, she seems to have a new weapon at her disposal.

This poor, innocent parked car in the video suffered the wrath of a geyser spewing powerful bursts of water from the ground in the middle of a city block. The car was no match for Earth’s power and was easily lifted up and pushed onto the curb with the back of it pretty damaged.

We give Mother Nature one point for winning the battle and two points for doing it with style.

While reports say that the geyser was caused by major storms across Montreal that backed up the old sewage system and caused what’s been called a “sewer geyser” (which sounds awfully disgusting), we at the Clog are taking no chances and are trading in our cars for bikes (fair trade, right?) in hopes that Mother Nature has mercy on us when she decides to geyser up the Bay Area.
